A Quote I Live By

Jenny Frye

Since joining this blogging platform, I’ve found so many great and inspirational bloggers just like myself who come from all walks of life, who also suffer from mental illnesses themselves. They are a huge inspiration to so many by so bravely sharing their life experiences and advice through their survival story.

The answer to that would be Yes! The quote below.

“Life is 90% of what we have been through, but 10% of it is how we choose to react to it.”

OR…

“Life is 10% of what we have been through, but 90% of it, is how we choose to react to it.”

THE CHOICE IS YOURS! YOU DECIDE!

In life we have all been through something, whether that be death of a loved one or suffering severe depression, some form of abuse, divorce, job loss, homelessness, cancer, severe health problems/conditions, financial hardship, etc. This life hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows for any of us, including myself. After being born into this world, I was born into a poor and broken family.

My own biological mother didn’t want me or any of the 11 kids she birthed. I was then adopted into another broken family of an alcoholic mother/half sister, along with a sick and twisted adopted father/ half brother who sexually and physically abused me my whole childhood. Then at the raw age of 11 years old, I was raped twice by two different people. One in which was a family member.

The beginning of my life started out pretty rough, yes. But does that define who I am as a person, absolutely not. Is my fate sealed? Do I have to allow what happened to me, determine my destiny? Absolutely not! Life’s adversities may have tried to break me, but the choice was ultimately mine. I could have allowed the unfortunate trauma and abuse to define who I was, but I didn’t!

I got up, pulled myself up by the boot straps and made the choice to fight back. I’ve always been told I have a fire under my a**. For those who know me like the back of their hand, they can attest to this. I’ve always been a fighter and a warrior at heart. I’ve got the strength of a hurricane.

Life for me, may not have started out all sunshine and rainbows, but 90% of it is all in how I chose to react to it. We can choose to look at life with either the glass half empty or half full.

Ultimately it is up to us how we view this life. We can choose to be a grumpy and bitter person and allow life’s circumstances and adversities to dictate our destiny. Or we can choose to live everyday like it’s our last. The choice really is ours to decide.

Although, granted we will still have our bad days, stress will still get to us, we will have our sick days, etc. That is a natural part of life, we are only human, we are naturally going to react to situations in life that come along and smack us in the face. But, it still doesn’t mean that we allow life’s adversities to determine our destiny or to define who we are. We have to make a choice each and everyday how we choose to allow life’s situations affect us.
